July 14^th, 2009 – Starting today in theatres all across America, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is being released.  This is the sixth movie based on the wildly successful book series and we look forward to Harry, Ron and Hermione  getting into trouble again as they attend Hogwarts for another year.  But more importantly than another academic year, more important than another year of growing up is that they face evil.  Harry personally faces evil in the person of Voldemort and his sinister crew of evil followers.  As we follow this story, Professor Dumbledore, Harry’s mentor, and the head of Hogwarts, is killed.  Harry personally faces evil and must make decisions on how and what he will do when confronted with evil.  And we have those very same challenges as we all come face to face with evil.

So, what does Jesus have to say about this?  Well, Jesus did personally face evil.  He came up against it. How did he react?  Jesus said words like this, “Get out of here Satan, for the Bible says that you must worship the Lord your God and serve only him”.

First of all, Jesus recognized evil and he kicked it out, he said get out of here.  Secondly, he then gives the meaning and purpose of life.  The purpose of life is to worship God.  We give him our life and that fulfills our life for today and tomorrow. But we’re not just suppose to sit on our hands and do nothing.  We are to take the energy that God gives us in response to his kindness, and we serve only him.

And that’s what Jesus would have to say.
